Cheryl Foggo, a Calgary-based artist, has dedicated over 30 years to chronicling the lives of African-descent Western Canadians. Her National Film Board documentary John Ware Reclaimed premieres at CIFF on September 24, 2025.
The 30th-anniversary edition of her book Pourin’ Down Rain was recently released. She directed the short film Kicking Up a Fuss: The Charles Daniels Story and wrote the award-winning play John Ware Reimagined, which earned the 2015 Writers Guild of Alberta Award for Drama. In 2017, she was named one of YWCA’s 150 outstanding Calgary women.
