FRACTURED: A BROKEN SCHOOL SYSTEM

By David Peddie

“Fractured: A Broken School System” is a short 9-minute documentary on the anti-black racism that takes place within school systems. This film features Kearie Daniel, Charline Grant, and Claudette Rutherford, three inspiring black female activists from the organization called “Parents of Black Children” as they discuss the issues black students face on their journey through school. Racism against black students is an issue that has been in schools of too long. This film takes a look at what that looks like through personal interviews with three female activists as they discuss topics like the streaming of black students, underrepresentation in schools and more. Layered within these interviews are conceptualized scenes of black students begin isolated and feeling unrepresented within schools. Everything comes together to convey one message; the school system is broken and there needs to be change.
