NOLA
By Aisha Evelyna, Natalie Remplakowski
NOLA is a sous chef working at a hip new Toronto restaurant. It’s Friday at 3:30pm, and her shift starts like any other. Save for the volatile disposition of her boss and chef de cuisine ROB, Nola manages unqualified kitchen staff, angry food vendors, and the varying personalities of her colleagues with relative ease. But simmering under the surface, Nola is working fiercely to keep her clinically diagnosed anxiety under control. For the most part she’s coping, but when she has a chance encounter with a man from her past in the middle of service, Nola returns to her mise-en-place forever changed. No longer able to stomach Rob’s rage, Nola is forced to decide how much power her anxiety truly reigns over her.
